Which dog is best for me?

I Like all dogs..but especialy bigger dogs! I want a dog that would be good for my lifestyle and my family..we love to be by water, take day trips, play in the backyard, go running and hang out. my mom works during the day but gets lunch breaks and my step dad works sometimes during the day and sometimes during the night..but he is always up so he will be able to take the dog out at night and during the day and i go to sleep late so i can take it out also at night..we want a dog that is able to "snuggle and cuddle" with us, be good around younger kids, like having fun, a bigger dog, a dog that can be a watchdog and that will protect you..and has to get along with cats! some people say german sheperds or ridgebacks..anyways..thanks..please answer (:
