I think you should try to be friends first. Maybe a girl he went out with before broke his heart so he doesn't want that to happen again. If you guys start out as friends then you can get to know each other more. And that will help you realize if he is relationship material. If after a while you don't think he's right for you then you still get a friendship from it. Sometimes guys play games. It's really stupid and can really hurt you.
