I recently did a lab for a chemistry cl and can not remember the name of the instrument used.?

The lab was on sugar content in certain soft drinks. It was not a hydrometer but something else and I can not remember the name to write up my lab report. You looked into eye pieces like you would a microscope to read a measurement (to the ten thousandth). The front of it had a spot to put gl slides and then there was a lever that you used to shine a light onto the slide.
