How long does shortness of breath last after bronchitis?

About 10 days ago i was diagnosed with bronchitis. The week before the coughing started i felt short of breath. Like taking a deep breath wasn't enough. That progressed into a bad cough although I never really coughed anything up. I did a little but not much. The chest congestion is gone and I feel fine. But I still have shortness of breath. The dr said i was wheezing the other day but the chest x ray was clear. How long should it take for this to go away? And should I use my proair hfa inhaler the dr gave me for the bronchitis even though the bronchitis appears to be gone?
